The Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme is a massive engineering feat consisting of 7 power stations, 16 dams, and over 140kms of transmountain tunnels. The lakes and waterways are fantastic venues for sailing, both for smaller dinghy’s and cats, and larger trailer sailers. Lake Eucumbene alone with 250km of lakeshore and covering an area 9 times the size of Sydney Harbour is a body of water that could be explored for days on end!
The Kiandra Goldfields, Historic Mountain Huts, the Tumbarumba Pioneer Women’s Museum, the Cooma Historic Railway are just a few of the things to visit.
The wildflowers in the spring and summer months are something to behold. Everything from stunning formal gardens (many local gardens are open as part of the Open Garden scheme), to the understated beauty of the alpine wildflowers.
